FAQs

Why should I work with you?

Throughout the years, I have seen that every family is different and unique… but all share some universal goals:

1. Quality of life for their child/youth. All parents seek positive experiences throughout the journey for their children.

2. All families of neurodiverse children want to feel less stress in the process. Often when they come to me, parents seem overwhelmed and not confident in their skills. I want to change that story to empower parents, enhance their skills, and support them in moving forward with their children.

Together we will identify a value for the family and child to determine the paths to get there. There is no “right or wrong” in my vocabulary. Still, only awareness and learning to shift by implementing and celebrating the small steps that make a big difference in the long-term picture!

What is Relationship Development Intervention?

“Relationship Development Intervention” or RDI® offers programs for individuals with autism and other developmental difficulties. It is often described as “the missing element” in the treatment of autism because instead of focusing on symptoms, our program works to activate the growth-seeking drive essential to addressing the challenges associated with autism.

RDI® programs teach parents how to guide their child to seek out and succeed in truly reciprocal relationships, while addressing key core issues such as motivation, communication, emotional regulation, episodic memory, rapid attention-shifting, self-awareness, appraisal, executive functioning, flexible thinking and creative problem solving.”

What’s the Difference between ABA Therapy and RDI Therapy?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a therapy treatment that involves learning and changing behaviours. The ABA goal in itself is to increase good and helpful behaviours, while decreasing the bad and hurtful ones through the process of Positive Reinforcement and ‘ABC’S (antecedents “before behaviour”, behaviour, and consequence “after behaviour”)

Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) is a social, emotional, and cognitive family-based program that aims to help individuals with autism/developmental disabilities in forming strong relationships and better living skills. The RDI goal in itself is to improve the quality of life for the youth/child by strengthening social skills, sharing experiences with others, and understanding different perspectives.

Is Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) for children/youth of all ages?

Yes, absolutely! This program can be created for children and youth at any age. I have worked with a children as young as 3 and those as old as 65 years young.

Can you work with children under the age of 6 and utilize the BC Autism Funds?

Yes, absolutely! As a certified consultant, the RDI program is approved by the Autism Funding Unit (AFU).
